Jeanette Lee diagnosed with terminal cancer
Prayers and GoFundMe will help The Black Widow as she faces the battle of her life
Let’s be honest: there are many varied opinions and debates within the pool community, no matter how tight-knit it is.
But there’s one thing we can all agree: there’s been no better ambassador to the sport and a more genuine wonderful human being away from the table than Jeanette “The Black Widow” Lee.
On Wednesday, she made public of her Stage 4 ovarian cancer diagnosis.
Her prowess and talent at the pool table have garnered her countless titles, awards, and recognitions. Most notably, she won the gold medal for the U.S. in the 2001 World Games (Akita, Japan); competed in the earlier Mosconi Cup as a member of Team USA; and inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame in 2013.
She used her celebrity status to promote the sport and also to give back to the community, whether it’s coaching young players or becoming an APA league operator in Tampa, FL, where she currently resides. She’s always appreciated her fans as evidenced by all the pictures being shared on social media.
Please keep her and her family in your thoughts, and consider donating to the Jeanette Lee Legacy Fund via GoFundMe.
THORPE LOSES SPONSOR AFTER INFAMOUS INCIDENT. Billy Thorpe’s physical and verbal altercation against Robb Saez was covered in our last newsletter, and by now many others have weighed in on social media and on pool podcasts (e.g. Cue It Up ep. 160, Chalk Is Cheap S2Ep2, etc.)… It appears one of Thorpe’s sponsors, Cuetec USA, has severed ties because of his unprofessional behavior.
CUE IT UP PODCAST EXPANDS. Podcasts have become a very popular platform due to the pandemic as pool players crave consumption of any pool content. The Cue It Up podcast, founded and hosted by Neight Mindham of Wisconsin, is one of the most popular and ranks high among pool fans. In a recent episode, Neight makes a major announcement: Cue It Up now expands (absorbs?) a couple of other podcasts, American Billiard Radio and Chalk Is Cheap, incarnated as Cue It Up Network. More quality pool content for podcast subscribers!
